New Update: 13th Annual Awards – 2025
Conceptualized and founded in 2012, the Common Man’s Standardized Awards for Tamil Cinema (CM’s SATC) is a nonprofit setup which scrutinizes and tracks the path of Tamil cinema in its progression & regression and awards the best in the industry every year. Coming from the common man’s point of view, these Awards are restricted to pop-culture categories and do not include deeper layers of the technical segment of the industry.
A total of 45 Awards, including 7 Public Picks — people’s favourite Awards — are conferred upon annually. One should let it slide the 2 special Awards which go against the “common man’s” tag — for they are named after two people who the founder of this organization admired in his early days of movie watching.
In any case, not a single award has been given to appease any particular person, a group of people/fans, or to obtain commercial appeal — which is exactly how certain organisations decide their winners.
Another important aspect of our Awards is the fact that we do not consider the success of a film — be it box-office success or critical acclamation — while picking the best in various departments. All the films which are above par, are considered for nominations under various categories. Hence, there is no compromise in selecting the best of all. Instead of giving undue importance to a particular film which may indeed be outstanding as a whole, we concentrate on the technicalities of each and every film to arrive at the genuine winner.
